flow by sicknessclown

When we ask our users how they like to browse through photos, the thing that we hear most often is:

“Whatever you do, just don’t make me click”

Well, we took that rather seriously and have come up with a very interesting way to browse through your photos. We call it the river view for the way it offers a free flowing way of browsing your photos.

Simply keep scrolling down the page and we keep adding more photos until you have seen all – cool, isn’t it?

Click here to check it out

So what can you do with this? Here are some of our thoughts and we would certainly like to hear how you end up using this!

a) Open up your lifeblob page in the river view and breeze through your entire photo album in <15 minutes. Really, I’m serious!

b) Open up a friend’s lifeblob page in river view and stumble upon photos that you’ve never seen before. Do comment on some of them too, your friend will appreciate it.

c) Think of the first word that comes to your mind, stick it at the end of http://www.lifeblob.com/tag/ and see the photos that everyone else has posted related to your word. It could be something cheesy like http://www.lifeblob.com/tag/cheese or it could be something funny like http://www.lifeblob.com/tag/funny or any random word like http://www.lifeblob.com/tag/random but you are bound to find some great photos!

The photos are currently ordered by popularity, but if you want to see them time ordered too, shoot us a mail and we’ll build it for you. We would love to hear how much you like this one!

Lifeblob is all about building connections with your friends and family through photos and videos.

So far, at lifeblob, we have tried to string these photos together along one of these connections and provided you a way to visually navigate through these using our timelines. Now take it to the next level by enabling you to explore and discover through these connections.

The idea is really simple – when you give us one photo, we will show you 20+ photos that are connected to your photo. The more information you provide around your photo, the better connections we will be able to build for you.

So whats the benefit?

Imagine uploading a photo of your college reunion, and instantly discovering photos that other people have added about your college next to it.

Or imagine adding a photo of the Pink Floyd concert you attended and finding photos of past Pink Floyd concerts or other concerts that happened in that location.

Or imagine going out to a trip with friends and seeing their photos next to the photos you clicked. The possibilities are endless.

How does this work?

All you need to do is upload your photo and add some information that describes it – thats it and we will do the rest.

Lets take this example of a recent conference I attended where Guy Kawasaki hosted a tweetup. I came back from the event, uploaded this photo to my lifeblob added a title, some tags and face tagged Guy Kawasaki – same stuff that you would do when you normally upload your photo.

And instantly, the other photos that are connected to this photo start showing up on the right. There are three sections in this panel that show photos through people, through places and tags – we’ll go through each of these in a bit.

a) Photos connected through people

This section shows photos that are connected through people who are either in your photo or people who are participants in your post or yourself ( in that order ). If you face tag people in the photos you add, you are more likely to see photos that are very strongly connected with yours.

b) Photos connected through place

This section shows photos that are connected through the place where the photo was taken. We always try to infer the place name from the information you add, but it is always better to explicitly specify a location.

c) Photos connected through tags

This section shows photos that are either connected through one of the tags you added or through the caption that describes the photo or through the title of your post. Add as many tags as possible to describe your photos and you will see photos that are very strongly connected to yours.

Its time to get all your photos on lifeblob and see how they are connected to others!

As you capture your photos and build your connections over time, your photos begin to tell a story, a story about you! Our visualization of your lifeblob captures that story, frame by frame, as it unfolds.

Each connection that you add to your photo indicates things that are important to you. And connections that occur across multiple photos indicate things or people that are really important to you. Wouldn’t it be very interesting to see how your connections, your preferences and your relations have changed over time?

That is exactly what we bring to you with the new lifeblob visualization. Below your lifeblob, you will now see your connections represented in a tag cloud format. The following rules determine what the tag cloud looks like:

The connections that are more important to you show up bigger and the ones that are not as important show up smaller.

As you move across your lifeblob, your connections also change to reflect things that were relevant to you in the date range you are currently looking at.

And when you are looking at someone else’s lifeblob, the connections that are common with you show up in green color.

As an example, here is a screenshot of my lifeblob – can you find 4 connections that are most important to me during this time period?

And here is a screenshot of Rahul’s lifeblob – can you find 4 connections that are common between him and me?

Do let us know how you like this visualization – we are all ears for your feedback

At lifeblob, we are committed to helping you connect with your friends through photos/videos and discover through the connections you build.

Today, we announce the launch of our next major release that will redefine the way you share and discover photos forever. This not only makes us the best photo sharing service around but also comes with an unprecedented offer of unlimited photo storage for everyone who signs up in the month of November ( and our existing users ofcourse ).

Here are the highlights of the new release:

1) Connected Photos

The core concept behind lifeblob is that events that happen in the life of a person connect him/her with other people and places and often are related with specific interests. We are now moving to the next level where we enable you to explore and discover through these connections.

So, whenever you upload a photo and tell us something about it, we instantly show you 20 photos that are connected to it in some manner – through people, through places and through tags / interests.

2) Timescape

Every event that you are a part of has some relevance that spans beyond the timeframe of the event itself. For example, you may have attended the NASSCOM conference in 2009, but the relevance of this conference spans a period of 2007 – 2009. This in a nutshell is what we offer in the timescape section.

3) Visualization of Connection Strength

Over time, various events happen in your life, each connecting you with other people, places and interests. It is often very interesting to visualize how the strength of your connections changes over time and how some connections disappear after a period of time whereas others remain stable throughout your lifetime. We have updated the timeline unit to clearly indicate the strength of connections in a tag cloud format.

We will follow up with detailed description of each of these in subsequent posts on this blog – do let us know how you like these changes.

This post is part of a series of posts explaining the features of the new lifeblob v2.0 release.]

One of the things we’ve tried to do with the new release is to bring about a seamless integration of social features around the timeline. Here is a low down on what we have to offer:

1) If you are interested in getting updates of a particular timeline, you can now follow that timeline and we will notify you.

2) On the home page, you will now find a timeline that is composed of all blobs that have been added by your friends, or added to the timelines you are following and some popular content. This makes it really easy for you to see what everyone in your network is talking about.

3) We have also added a few widgets to make it easy for you to find other interesting and popular timelines.

4) And as always, we have a status message and a news feed.

Adding posts to your timeline has never been easier. In our never-ending quest to make it easier for you to post stuff onto lifeblob, we’ve added a few new features and simplified some existing ones.

Right below your timeline and also on your home page, we’ve added a nifty little panel that lets you add stuff instantly to your timeline.

Want to post a photo to your timeline? Just select the file and click post. No further questions!

A bunch of photos? Sure, just select “Upload an album”.

We also let you add videos to your timeline. Currently, only YouTube videos are supported.

Are you the writer kind? Choose the “Write” option and express yourself to your hearts’ content.

For the users of picasa offline photo organizer, we have a picasa button that they can install to upload directly from picasa to lifeblob.

Email is still a very widely used mode of sending photos to friends and the next time you mail your photos to your friends, you can also cc it to me@post.lifeblob.com to have them posted on your timeline – all your friends listed in the mail also get added as participants.

[This post is part of a series of posts explaining the features of the new lifeblob v2.0 release.]

Life is beautiful, and so are the moments that you are a part of. And now, they look as beautiful on your timeline too.

When you click on a blob on a timeline, it opens up to show you a detailed view. This has been completely redesigned so that your content not only shines, it looks simply stunning. The dark gray background, the printed newspaper kind of a layout, the ability to view thumbnails and the text along with your media all combine to give you a never-before experience.

Wondering where your relationships and other details of the blob are? Simply scroll down and you will find them all there. You can also change most of these details inline, without leaving the blob – the tags, participants, location and related timelines can all be changed inline.

You can also easily share a blob with your friends by either sending them the URL or by using the “Tell A Friend” button at the top. There is also a “Next” and “Prev” button to make it easy for you to move to the next or previous blob in the order of time.

We have put in a lot of thought on this and we would love to hear how you like it. Do share your feedback!

[This post is part of a series of posts explaining the features of the new lifeblob v2.0 release.]

The most important feature of the new lifeblob is the brand new patent pending timeline visualization. The value proposition of lifeblob lies in enabling users to build timelines of their lives and presenting how their relationships, interests and associations change over time. The new visualization helps us focus more strongly on the latter part.

In the new timeline visualization, we simulate a third dimension that shows all the relations of a blob right behind it – this makes it really easy for you to see how your relations with other people, places and your interests changed over time, as you scroll through a timeline.

The picture above shows a blob about “Abhin’s Birthday” on my timeline. A quick look behind the blob will tell you that it is related to Lifeblob, Pranav, Rakesh and two more relations that could not be shown. Clicking on any of these cards behind the blob will take you to the timeline of that relation at that piont in time.

Sweet, isn’t it?

We at Lifeblob believe that memories should be fun. Yesterday, we launched a Facebook Application called Said It. Said It lets you make your funny photos even funnier. Have a funny picture of a friend that you want to share with everyone? Use Said It to add callouts, send it to all your friends and watch as the “ROTFL”s start pouring in.

Want to pull you friend’s leg? Just tell us who and we will show you all photos tagged with that person anywhere in Facebook. Select the funniest photo and add callouts to it. You’ve just created a “Said It!” It’s that simple!

An interesting part of Said It is that it lets you fight fire with fire. If you’ve just been targeted by one of your friends in a Said It, just hit the Reply link to target them back in a new Said It. Add comments to Said Its and rate them and we’ll soon be able to tell you which of your friends has the best sense of humor.

You can start using the application from here. Browse, rate and comment on Said Its that are in the system. Try creating one of your own. It’s fun and takes just about 20 seconds. As always, we’d love to get your feedback. Email us (feedback@lifeblob.com), write on our wall or write us a review.
