Turn your hard drive into a story

without comments

If you are one of those who have tons of photos on your hard drive and do not want to go through the hassle of organizing it into albums, we have some good news!

Today we announce  an upgrade to our picasa button where you now have the option of just uploading all your photos and let us do the tedious part of organizing them. Our servers do a good job of grouping together photos that were taken around the same time into a single blob and automatically turn your photos into a beautiful timeline.

Here are the steps:

1) Install Picasa’s latest desktop client on your machine. You can download it from http://picasa.google.com.

2) Install the lifeblob picasa button. You will find the instructions to install it at http://www.lifeblob.com/tools/. This will add a lifeblob button on your picasa button bar – it looks like:

3) Select all the photos that you want to upload and click the lifeblob button in picasa. Please note that picasa imposes a limit of uploading only 400MB of photos at one time.

4) In the screen that shows up, select “Automatically organize photos for me” option.

And thats all – in the next few minutes, all the photos on your hard drive will be converted into a beautiful timeline.

Import individual albums from picasa

with 2 comments

If you want all the albums in your picasa account on your timeline, you can run the “Import Your Stuff” tool in lifeblob to do that.

But what if you only want a few of those albums on your timeline ? Or what if you want an album in your friend’s picasa account on your timeline ?

This is now possible with individual album import. When you run the “Import Your Stuff” tool and select Picasa from the list, you will now have the choice of linking up a picasa account or importing picasa albums one at a time.

Here is what this looks like:

Adding more colors to life

with one comment

You have been using lifeblob for over a month, have a lot of posts and can’t find out which ones are private and which ones are not ?

OR

You imported your flickr / picasa / blog to your timeline and want to know where the posts on your timeline were sourced from ?

If you ever had these questions, we have the perfect answer for you. We just added more colors to your life ( aka timeline ) to make things better for you. Your posts now show up in one of three colors, determined by the privacy level of the post:

  • Red means private / visible only to you
  • Green means public / visible to everyone
  • Gray means participants / visible to participants

For the posts that have been created by using the BlogImporter or PhotoImporter, we have also added an icon to indicate the service from where the post was sourced.

Check out the screenshot below for a sample ( click to enlarge ):

PS: Thanks to our friend Varalu for the suggestion.

Picasa/Flickr Photo Importer

with 2 comments

Now, in addition to importing blogs, you can also import your albums from Flickr and Picasa. And we don’t just import photos – we also import your comments, tags and geo-tagging information and automatically link up your post with the respective tag and place timelines.

Running the photo importer is really simple:

  • Click on ‘Apps‘ to see the available applications

Selecting Apps From Top Bar

  • Select Photo Importer

Selecting Photo Importer from Apps Page

  • Select the service from where you want to import photos

And woosh!, in less than a minute, you will have a beautiful timeline showing all your precious memories. We do not ask for your password ( you will be taken to the google/yahoo login page for authentication ) and the posts on your timeline have the same visibility settings as your photo albums.

So import your photo albums and blob on!!
